"...the grip felt like we had installed lockers!"

We have only had our tyres for about four months but our travels include highways, city, beaches, bush trails and the outback, at high speed and using 4WD high and low.

We have only clocked up about 4000km on our ST Maxx’s 285/70/17 on sand, tar, trails, dirt and corrugations, all in wet and dry conditions. We haven’t seen much mud with this set of tyres but we did on our previous ST Maxx’s on a different vehicle and the grip felt like we had installed lockers!

Our ST Maxx’s are All Terrains but it is an agressive AT with tread on the side walls which bites into the sides of ruts. We chose ST Maxx’s because they are such a good all round tyre - plus we had them on a smaller previous vehicle where they more than proved themselves! We are also not going off road every other weekend, enough to warrant spending the extra to get the STT Pro’s, so it’s better for us to have a tyre with equal on road ability. The mileage warranty for the ST Maxx is also 80,000km which gives us peace of mind.

Noise is minimal when driving and cornering on hard top is positive. Good grip wet and dry on hard top. On sand we need to drop pressures to below 16psi to keep the tyres on top of the sand but we that’s likely due to the solid sidewalk construction, which we like anyway to protect against side punctures in the bush. The most important thing to do with 4WD tyres is to constantly monitor for correct tyre pressure, according to the terrain you are driving, payload weight or use e.g. towing - that’s when you will get the absolute best performance from these already excellent tyres!
